Eemil Luukka

Eemil Vihtori Luukka ( born December 1, 1892 in Muolaa, today Prawdino, Russia Viktor Emil Luukka, † June 1, 1970 in Valkeakoski ) was a Finnish politician of the Land League and longtime president of the Federal Karelia.

Luukka was born in Muolaa, a village south-east of Viipuri on the Karelian Isthmus in what was then the Russian Empire belonging to the Grand Duchy of Finland. He grew up on his parents' farm Yrjö Luukka and Hetti Määttänen and, after attending the elementary school on this farm as a farmer. In 1921 he married Hilda Tyyne Toukkari. He was also active as soon as a clerk of the municipality.

1936 Luukka was chosen for the Land League in the Finnish Parliament. His mandate he held for almost thirty years until 1966. After the Winter War, by the even his hometown Muolaa fell to the Soviet Union, he was given a new court for the management in Sääksmäki at Valkeakoski. In 1944 he was in the caretaker cabinet of Antti Hackzell first deputy interior minister. In the cabinet PAASIKIVI II Luukka served 1944/45, as Minister for Agriculture. Among the Landbund Prime Minister Vieno Sukselainen and Martti Miettunen Luukka was also from 1960 to 1962 Finnish Minister of Agriculture. During this time he was from 3 to 14 July 1961, transitional prime minister.

As a native Karelians to Eemil Luukka sat soon after the war for a peaceful reintegration of Karelia in Finland. From 1946 to 1967 he was president of the Federal Karelia, who followed precisely this goal.
