Eesti Energia

Eesti Energia AS ( "Energy Estonia " ) is an Estonian energy company. The energy company is a major supplier of electricity and heat in Estonia. Significant energy resource is the oil shale as a domestic energy source. Eesti Energia is also involved in oil shale investment in other countries (eg Jordan).

History

Eesti Energia was founded in 1939, a year before the Soviet occupation of Estonia as a state energy company. Eesti Energia is now 100 % owned by the Republic of Estonia. The Group currently employs 8,000 employees. Eesti Energia has about 470,000 residential customers and 26,000 business customers. Its revenue for the tax year 2008/2009 677 million euros.

Subsidiaries

To Eesti Energia Group 's subsidiaries Eesti Põlevkivi AS include (breakdown and utilization of oil shale), AS Narva Elektrijaamad ( cogeneration plants in Narva ), OÜ Iru Elektrijaam ( cogeneration plant in Iru ), OÜ Põhivõrk (electricity transmission networks ) and OÜ Jaotusvõrk ( power lines to the end user ) and other companies. Eesti Energia is also investing in renewable energy, especially in hydropower. The hydropower plant Linnamäe ( Linnamäe hüdroelektrijaam ) the river is operated by Eesti Energia Jagala. Eesti Energia is co-owner of the 106 -km-long submarine electricity cable Estlink between Finland and Estonia, which was inaugurated in December 2006. The subsidiary Televõrgu AS offers since 2007 high-speed Internet connections.
