Efate
Efate (French Efate ) is a counting to the New Hebrides island province of Shefa Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. It is also known under the name " Île Vate ".
Efate is with about 50,000 inhabitants, is the most populous and with nearly 900 km ², the third largest island in Vanuatu. The highest peak, Mount McDonald, is 647 m. Most original residents Éfatés now live in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu.
During the Second World War, the island served as a military base of the United States.
In the north- west of the island is Chief Roi Mata 's Domain, which was awarded by UNESCO in 2008 as a World Heritage Site.
