Effingham County (Georgia)

The Effingham County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Springfield.

Geography

The County is located in the east of Georgia, bordering South Carolina and is in the southeast about 50 km from the Atlantic. It has an area of 1250 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Chatham County, Bryan County, Bulloch County and Screven County.

History

Effingham County was formed on February 5, 1777 4 County in Georgia and as an original county of the Parrishes St. Matthew and St. Philip. It was named after Francis Howard, 1st Earl of Effingham, an English nobleman.
