Efim Jourist

Efim Jourist ( born January 13, 1947 in Kamjanez - Podilskyj; † January 13, 2007 in Hamburg) was a Ukrainian composer, accordionist and bayan player.

Life

Efim Jourist was born in Kamjanez - Podilskyj. From 1966 he studied at the Musikhochschule in Gorky, where he made the acquaintance of the composer Nikolai Chaikin, which had great influence on his musical development. After graduating in 1971 Jourist was soloist in the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Orchestra and began his international concert career.

In 1992 he moved with his family to Germany, where he also played with Efim Jourist quartet at festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival or the MDR Music Summer next solo performances. The quartet is composed of Bayan, violin, guitar and double bass and forms with marimba / vibraphone and percussion in addition the Efim Jourist ensemble. In addition to the edits mainly Soviet composers for his ensembles he composed for bayan and orchestra. Efim Jourist died exactly on his 60th birthday from cancer in Hamburg.
