Efrem Forni

Efrem Cardinal Forni ( born January 10, 1889 in Milan, Italy, † February 26, 1976 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Efrem Forni studied in Milan and Rome, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. He received on 6 July 1913, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and teacher at the Archdiocesan College of Cantù and the College of Milan. From 1921 to 1926, Efrem Forni secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Portugal, from 1928 to 1937 he was in the service of the Apostolic Nunciature in France. Pope Pius XI. appointed him on 26 November 1937 Titular Archbishop of Darnis and Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador. The episcopal ordination by Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli he received, the future Pope Pius XII. This gave him in 1953 the leadership of the Apostolic Nunciature in Belgium with responsibility also for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Pope John XXIII. took Efrem Forni on 19 March 1962 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in the College of Cardinals to. Efrem Forni participated in the years 1962-1965 at all sessions of the Second Vatican Council and the conclave of the year 1963. Efrem Forni died on 26 February 1976 in Rome and was buried in the crypt of his family in Milan.
