Egaleo ( Greek: Αιγάλεω, ancient Greek Αἰγάλεως Aigaleos, latin Aegaleus ), also Aigaleo, is a mountain range in Greece. The northeastern part ( northeast of the crossing by the Highway 8 at Dafni ) also Pikilos (Greek Ποικίλος, also poikilos ) is called.

Location

The Egaleo lies west of the Greek capital, Athens, southeast of Eleusis, east of the island of Salamis and northwest of Piraeus.

The areas around the mountain range around are inhabited predominantly dense. Character

The existing limestone mountain range is mostly rocky, forested also in the northern area where the Daphni Monastery is located. In the southwest of the mountain range extends almost to the coast of the Bay of Salamis zoom.

From Aigaleos with the view of the bay of Salamis, the Persian king Xerxes is said to have observed the Battle of Salamis. In ancient times the Aigaleos was partly in the field of demos Colonus.

Traffic
