Egino (Bishop of Dalby)

Egino (* unbek, † October 19, 1072 in Lund ) was the first bishop of Dalby, as well as Bishop of Lund.

The Danish King Sven Estridsson divided the Diocese of Roskilde after the death of the local bishop, Avocos ( Aages, 1060 ) into two parts. In the dioceses resulting therefrom he used for a Egino from Hildesheim and showed him the seat in Dalby to. In the same year he was ordained by Archbishop Adalbert of Bremen Bishop of Dalby. On the other received Henrik, hitherto Bishop of Orkney, the Diocese of Lund.

Egino let the Holy Cross Church built as a bishop's church, trying to strengthen Dalby's position as a bishop's seat against Lund. He worked intensively with the mission, especially on Bornholm and Blekinge. Along with Bishop William of Roskilde he opposed the marriage Sven with Gunhild, the daughter of the Swedish king Anund Jacob, which was then annulled by Adalbert of Bremen, due to the near kinship. From 1066 he was appointed as successor to Henrik, Bishop of Lund. Henrik had come from the diocese of Canterbury, so that Lund suffragan of Canterbury had been. Egino assumed the bishopric of Hamburg -Bremen now. The dioceses Dalby and Lund were combined and Egino donated in Dalby provost. 1071 Egino visited Rome, and he died in Lund after his return in 1072.

Adam of Bremen held Egino for a "scientifically formed [ s ] and chastity excellent [ s ] man." As a bishop he had evangelized in Blekinge and the inhabitants of the island of Bornholm. He is said to have fearlessly turned against an idol, why him the bishopric of Lund had then been transferred.
