Egon Petri

Egon Petri ( born March 23, 1881 in Hannover, † 27 May 1962 Berkeley (California ), United States ) was a classical pianist Dutch origin.

Life and work

Egon Petri, son of Dutch parents, was Dutch, from 1955 an American citizen. He was born in 1881 in Hanover, Germany, and grew up in Dresden. His father Henri Petri (1856-1914), a renowned violinist, was Joseph Joachim pupils, from 1882 concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and from 1889 "Royal Saxon leader " of the Dresden court orchestra; from him he received violin lessons. In addition, he took lessons in music theory ( with Felix Draeseke ), piano (with Richard Mayer book and the Teresa Carreño ), organ and French horn. For Rudolf Firkušný Petri was " not only a great pianist, but one of the greatest of all time ".
