Egschiglen

Egschiglen (Mongolian Эгшиглэн, German as: " harmony " or " beautiful melody " ) is a Mongolian music ensemble, which was founded in 1991 by four students of the conservatory in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator, where they studied together 1984-1991.

The ensemble consists of five musicians, traditional and contemporary Mongolian music on traditional instruments like the two-stringed horse-head fiddle morin khuur, the dulcimer joochin, the Wölbbrettzither Yatga, the fretless, stringed long-necked lute tobshuur and the painted horse head bass ih khuur play. The singing is solo and polyphonic style of the typical for Central Asia Obertongesanges ( Khöömii ) and the Urtiin duu ( " Long Song ").

In addition to ritual and profane music adapt Egschiglen also elements of Western music such as rap elements and play works by contemporary composers Mongolian.

Members of the ensemble are: Migdorj Tumenbayar, Yanlav Tumursaikhan, Amartuwshin Baasandorj, Uuganbaatar Tsend - Ochir, Sarangerel Tserevsamba that are amplified in live performance by the dancer Ariunaa Tserendavaa.

The musicians live since 1995, a time of year in the Franconian Röthenbach an der Pegnitz. Through encounters with local musicians and instrument makers have dealt with Bavarian and alpine folk music traditions and edited Franconian folk songs in Mongolian style.

Egschiglen perform regularly at prestigious world music and classical music festivals, especially in Western Europe and in Asia.

Awards

  • In 2007, the ensemble Egschiglen was awarded the World Music Award creole Bavaria.
