Egwale Seyon

Egwala Seyon ( äthiop. እጓለ ጽዮን, also Egwale Seyon Hezqeyas, † June 3, 1818 ) was from June 1801 until his death, Emperor of Ethiopia. He was a member of the Solomonic dynasty and the son of Hezqeyas.

He was raised by the nobles Wolde Selassie and Gugsa of Yejju and head of the Oromo to the Emperor ( Negus Nagast ). Then marry Egwala Seyon Walatta Iyasus, the sister of Ras Gugsa and they had five children. When Henry Salt Ras Wolda Selassie visited in his palace in Chalacot 1809/1810 was the brother of the Emperor, Iyasu Kenyazmach there also guest.

Since 1803 his government was overshadowed by an ongoing civil war. Most battles were part of the disputes between Ras Gugsa, Ras Wolde Selassie and Gabrael of Semien. Egwale Seyon was also attacked in 1804 and 1808 by the armies of the Oromo from Gondar. They lived south of the Abay River.
