Egyptian Communist Party

The Egyptian Communist Party (Arabic الحزب الشيوعي المصري, DMG al - Hizb aš - ʿ ī al - Misri Suyu, abbreviation ÄKP ) is a political party in Egypt, in 1975 by a group of members of the disbanded Egyptian Communist Party of the year was founded in 1958.

The party is led by its Secretary General, Salah Adli.

History

Under the government of President Anwar al-Sadat, the new Communist Party was allowed, however, the party saw under President Hosni Mubarak political persecution exposed and was excluded from the elections. The party operated until the fall of Mubarak in 2011 in the underground. Although members of the Egyptian Communist Party were often arrested under Mubarak and partly victims of assassinations were the party is involved since 2011 in the mobilization of workers.

On 20 May 2011 the Egyptian Communist Party agreed to join a " Socialist Front" with four other left Egyptian Group: Coalition of Socialist Forces, which also includes the Revolutionary Socialists, the Popular Socialist Alliance, the Socialist Party of Egypt and the Democratic Labour Party.
