The University of Ehime (Japanese爱媛 大学, Ehime daigaku, in short: Aidai (爱 大) ) is a state university in Japan. The main campus is located in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture.

History

The University of Ehime was founded in 1949 by the merger of four state schools. The four were:

  • High school Matsuyama (松山 高等学校, Matsuyama Gakko koto, founded in 1919 ),
  • The Normal School Ehime (爱媛 师范学校, Ehime shihan Gakko founded in 1876, government since 1943),
  • Youth Normal School Ehime (爱媛 青年 师范学校, Ehime his shihan Gakko, founded in 1927, government since 1944 ), and
  • The pilot Niihama (新居 浜 工业 専 门 学校, Niihama Kōgyō Semmon Gakko, founded in 1939, officially since the establishment ).

The university was opened with three faculties: humanities and natural sciences, education, and engineering. In 1954, the prefectural Agricultural University Matsuyama (爱媛 県 立 松山 农科 大学, Ehime Matsuyama kenritsu Noka daigaku, founded in 1900 ) to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. In 1963 he moved the Faculty of Engineering from Niihama to Matsuyama to (instead of the faculty received city Niihama a state college ). In 1968, the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences was divided into two faculties. In 1973, the Faculty of Medicine was newly established.
