Ehrlichsches Gestift

The Ehrlich Gestift was founded in 1743 by the merchant and councilor, Johann Georg Ehrlich in Dresden Foundation.

Tasks

The foundation consisted of two parts: supporting adult arms by weekly bread donations and care for poor children. This one hundred children, fifty boys and girls were taught and cared for in a school. Two teachers taught the children in religion, reading, writing and arithmetic.

Schulgut and school building

The Schulgut of Ehrlich's Gestifts was at Blasewitzer shock. On Rampischen beat the Gestift had three gardens.

The school building was originally located near the Freiberger place at the later named after the Gestift Stiftstraße (now Alfred Althus Street). In October 1880, the school was in a new school building in Blochmann road near the present-day Strasbourg Square. In 1912 the school building was expanded. The Ehrlich Gestift in 1921 converted into an elementary school. When the air raids on Dresden in February 1945 the school building was heavily damaged in 1951 and changed rebuilt. The building in the Blochmann street corner Grunaer road, was used until 1981 by the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber.

Collegiate churches

For Ehrlich's Gestift included a collegiate church. First they used the hospital chapel along the Pichplatz, today Wettin place between Green Lane and Schuetzengasse. The chapel, which belonged to the pest-house, was a house of similar construction. Created from a simple prayer room building was extended in 1702 for the first time. In 1732 was a further extension. Johann Georg Ehrlich made ​​in 1738 to increase the building and designed the galleries. The church was demolished in 1897 for the construction of the Church of St. James.

Then own Gestiftskirche was built from 1907 on the school grounds. The 1945 was also partially destroyed. A reconstruction and possible use by the College of Music would have been possible, but the ruined church was demolished in 1951. The baptismal font and pews were transferred to the rebuilt Thomas Church on the ground Straße in Gruna.
