Location of Eibau in Saxony

Eibau ( Upper Sorbian Jiwow, Upper Lusatian dialect: Yew ) is a district of the municipality Kottmar, which lies to the south of the eastern Saxony Landkreis Görlitz between Zittau and Bautzen. He is known nationally for its black beer.

Geography

Geographical location

Inclusive, located in the upper land and water Grundwassertal, nestled by the mountains Kottmar ( 583 m), Hänsch Mountain, Beckenberg ( 407.6 m), Spitzberg (510 m), fireclay and Lerchenberg, is a typical for the area Waldhufendorf.

The district is located in the south of the municipality Kottmar and partially forms a transition from the Upper Lusatian Mountains on the Eastern Upper Lusatia.

On the southwestern slope of Kottmar, the second highest mountain of Upper Lusatia, is one of the three sources Spree. Since this is the most elevated, it is referred to as a main artery.

Neighboring communities

In the district of Eibau following five municipalities border: Herrnhut in the Northeast, or joke in the southeast, Leutersdorf in the south and Ebersbach- Neugersdorf in the West. In the north of the district Obercunnersdorf borders.

Community structure

The former municipality merged in 2013 with the neighboring communities of Upper and Niedercunnersdorf the new community Kottmar. Previously was Eibau from the three districts inclusive, Neueibau and forest village, which are also districts of the new community now.

Furthermore, there is the - not designated as a district - Kottmarhäuser settlement, which is secluded from the other residential areas of the district on the Eibauer and forest villages hallway.

History

The oldest known written mention Eibaus dates back to 1352 and can be found in Pope tithes directory for the deanery Zittau. According to a document from the year 1384 Eibauer church belonged at that time already to the diaconate Zittau.

Eibau is a Waldhufendorf and lies on the banks of the country water. Middle of the 16th century created numerous half-timbered houses that bear witness to the tradition of linen weaving even up to the present time. During the industrialization mechanical weaving, which existed until 1989 originated.

On January 14, 1714 and signed the Memorandum of Neueibau of King August the Strong of Saxony, situated on both sides of Leutersdorfer water.

1704, the construction of a new church was begun. In the consecration on September 27, 1707, at least 1880 people were present. In the years 1751, 1779 and 1797, lightning struck the church, which burned down in the first-mentioned impact, among other things, the tower and were damaged finial and bells.

On 1 January 1999, the municipalities Neueibau and forest village were incorporated with the district Kottmarhäuser. In January 2013 Eibau was amalgamated with its suburbs to the new community Kottmar.

Place name

The place name is assigned as Ywa ( 1352), Yba ( 1367 ), Iwa ( 1390 ), Yben, Eybe ( 1405/1428 ), YBE, Yebe ( 1430), Eybe ( 1468 ), Eybaw ( 1567) and Eybau ( 1768). In connection with Neueibau Eibau 1875 is occupied as Alteibau.

The name lead Ernst Eichler and Hans Walther from Middle High German IWE ' yew ' to a location on or in the yew forest or in the yew -rich floodplain. A similar names origin have to have the Erzgebirgsorte Eibenstock and Eibenberg.

The Sorbian place name gave Filip Rezak 1920 still with Jiwow to Eichler and Walther renounced in 1975 already - as with most places outside the Sorbian-speaking area - on a reproduction of a Sorbian place name.

Earlier community partnerships

The former municipality Eibau maintained partnerships with the community Sulzbach-Laufen in the Kocher, the district forest village Altensteig in the Black Forest and the Czech town of Krasna Lipa ( German Schönlinde ), which are also partners of the municipality Kottmar now.

Regular events

Since 1993, takes place every year in late June, the traditional Eibauer Bierzug. The parade along the main road 96 commemorates the historically authentic beer dispute between Lobau, Zittau and Görlitz in the 17th century.

Economy and infrastructure

One of the largest employers in the region, with some 120 employees in the agricultural cooperative Eibau eG. The farm currently manages 2731 acres of land and has a herd of 1350 cows, 1350 heifers and 240 sows (2009).

Since 1810, based in Eibau Eibau private brewery has i.Sa. GmbH, formerly Münch -Bräu Eibau GmbH, the right to brew beer for the production of beer. Became known, the company mainly because of its production of black beer.

Traffic

The district is traversed for a distance of around 5 km from the main road 96 and lies on the railway line Oberoderwitz - Wilthen (South Lusatian train), from the railway Mittelherwigsdorf - Varnsdorf - Eibau branches.

Education

The district currently operates the Pestalozzi elementary school, leisure Hort sunshine and the daycare sparrows nest in Eibau and daycare fairy forest in forest village. Also a private library located in Eibau.

The middle school and Martin Andersen Nexo Elementary School in inclusive, the primary school in the village and the forest daycare Max and Moritz in Neueibau were closed due to declining number of children gradually.
