Eibingen Abbey

The St. Hildegard Abbey is a Benedictine Abbey in Eibingen near Rüdesheim in the diocese of Limburg. Since 2002 she is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

History

The Abbey is canonically in the succession of the Holy. Hildegard of Bingen founded monasteries Rupert and Eibingen.

The new monastery was built above Eibingen 1900-1904 in neo- Romanesque style, was founded by Prince Karl of Löwenstein -Wertheim -Rosenberg and colonized in 1904 by the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gabriel. It belongs to Beuronese Congregation. 1941, the sisters were sold as part of the monastery tower of the Nazis by the Gestapo; after the war they were able to return in 1945. 1988 settled the sisters at the convent Marienrode Hildesheim new. Marienrode was a dependent of Eibingen office until 1998 and was subsequently independent priory.

Organ

The old monastery in the district Eibingen was vacated in 1814. By Reichsdeputationshauptschluss it fell to the Prince of Nassau. 1831 acquired the Eibinger the former parish convent and church.
