Eichenberg, Hildburghausen

Eichenberg is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen in Thuringia. The municipality belongs to the administrative community Feldstein with administrative headquarters in town Themar.

Geography

Geographical Location

Oak Mountain is located at the junction of the Thuringian Forest in the valley of the Werra about 10 kilometers south of Suhl. About two kilometers north rises the 692 -meter-high snow mountain, the highest mountain of the so-called small Thuringian Forest.

History

A first mention found the village in a deed dated August 7, 1130. Though immersed a nomination Eychyneberg already in a dated on the 26th of August of the year 1111 deed of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry V, however, this certificate must probably from the a later time coming so-called Reinhard Brunner counterfeits are attributed. From 1815 to 1945 Eichenberg belonged to Prussia, administratively to the district Schleusingen. From 1946 to 1994 Eichenberg belonged to the circle of Suhl- country. Since 1 July 1994, the community is incorporated into the circuit Hildburghausen.

Policy

The local council in Eichenberg consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote.

Culture and sights

Structures

On a hill on the west side of the village, the church rises determining the townscape. In the center there is a small park with a fountain and a monument to the fallen in the two world wars Eichenberger.
