Eifel Transmitter

The transmitter is a transmitter of the Eifel Südwestrundfunks for FM radio and television at Kirchweiler in the Eifel. The 302 meter high guyed steel lattice mast is located on the Schartenberg in the Eifel district, replacing an older 1985, 160 meter high guyed mast. The new building was necessary because data sent by the old mast programs did not reach the required signal strength for interference-free reception in shaded valleys of the Eifel.

Construction

The lower 20 feet of the tower were built using a small crane, the mast sections at heights between 20 meters and 100 meters using a crane truck. The higher pole elements Derrick was used.

The mast is composed of a 288 meter high guyed steel lattice mast with a side length of 2.1 meters and a 14 meter high fiberglass cylinder at the top, which is designed for the reception of UHF TV antennas. The total weight is 204 tons. The mast is guyed at four levels: 57 meters, 123 meters, 195 meters and 273 meters above the ground. It has an elevator, which can drive up to 281 meters in height. As aircraft warning lights 20 red neon lights and two flashing lights with 1000 watt lamps are installed.

The transmission tower is the tallest structure in Rhineland -Palatinate and widely visible.
