Eightercua

The stone row Eightercua (Irish Sraitheanna Liagáin Íochtar Cua ) is located on the Beara Peninsula on the road that leads from Waterville to the south and is known as a section of the Ring of Kerry in County Kerry in Ireland. The alignement is dated to the year 1700 BC.

The four stones stand in a long line of about nine meters and can reach heights of up to three meters. The number of the remainder seems to have a complex structure. There are traces of an adjacent Megalithic Monuments.

About 50 rows of stones are known in the counties Cork and Kerry. They were often built on elevated places. The number of the blocks varies, but is generally between three and six. Stone rows appear in Ulster often associated with stone circles and contain more, but considerably smaller stones than those in Munster.

Legend

According to local tradition Eightercua is the burial place of Scéine, wife of Amergin, the head of the Milesians. The price stated in Lebor Gabála Érenn period of their mythological arrival in Ireland happens to coincide with about the Period of the Stone series.
