Eilean Mhic Coinnich ( German: MacKenzie Island ) is a small, uninhabited and undeveloped Scottish island, which belongs to the group of the Inner Hebrides. The maximum 660 m long and 300 m wide island is located near the southern tip of the city, in the west of the island of Islay peninsula Rhinns of Islay. From this it is separated by a 100 m wide waterway. Administratively part of Eilean Mhic Coinnich for Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute or historically to the county Argyllshire. On Islay Eilean Mhic Coinnich is the village Portnahaven opposite. Together with its eastern neighbor island Orsay protects the harbor Portnahavens from the rigors of the Atlantic Ocean.

There are indications that Eilean Mhic Coinnich was once inhabited. An example is the southeast of the island indication of human development. Earlier reports of grave sites on the island, could not be confirmed in more recent studies. The island is declared on the basis of their biodiversity as a nature reserve.

In 2008, the owner Gilbert MacNab wrote the island for £ 100,000 for sale. Finally, the school director Piers Casimir Mrowczynski from St Albans, Hertfordshire bought the island in 2012 at a cost of £ 55,000.
