Ein el-Jarba

Ein el - Jarba is an Israeli court finds the early Chalcolithic period of the Wadi Rabah culture, which dates back to the 6th millennium BC.

Geographical Location

The site is located at the foot of Menashe - ridges in today's kibbutz Hasorea in the Jezreel Valley, the main connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the valley of the Jordan, about 20 km southeast of the modern city of Haifa and is explored in the context of an excavation project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

History of Research

Several excavations have been carried out in the vicinity of Ein el - Jarbas. After the discovery of archaeological material relevant for dredging operations took place in 1966, a first excavation campaign under the direction of Jacob Kaplan.

The researched excavation area covered about 65 square meters and yielded four phases of Chalcolithic use with wall remains and burials. In 1979, about 75 m west of this area were also exposed frühchalkolithische wall remains under the direction of E. Meyerhof.

Other localities of the sixth millennium BC are in the vicinity, for example Tell Qiri, Hasorea, Tell Zeriq, Abu Zureiq and Mishmar HaEmek stratum V.

Excavations Since 2013

Since 2013 Ein el - Jarba is explored from the Archaeological Institute of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem under the leadership of Catherine dispute. Two colonization episodes from the Early Bronze Age IB ( 4th millennium BC. ) And the Frühchalkolithikum ( 6th millennium BC. ) Were discovered. The Early Bronze Age settlement consists of oval houses with floors, pits and a grain silo. In the frühchalkolithischen phase, several floors and the remains of adobes, and a round stone installation were found.
