Einar Kárason

Einar Kárason (* November 24, 1955 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic author.

Life

From 1975 to 1978 he studied literature at the University of Iceland. Since 1978 he works as a freelance writer in Reykjavík. He is very active active in the Icelandic Writers Union from 1988 to 1992 he was its chairman. Since 1985, he organized as one of the leaders of the literary festival Reykjavík. On January 27, 2009, he planned Sturlungurtrilogie with the Icelandic title OFSI (2008), the Icelandic Literature Prize ( Íslensk Bókmenntaverðlaun ) was awarded for his latest novel, part 2.

Works

The author began his writing career thus, poems to be published in literary journals ( 1978-80 ). Later, he also wrote novels. Best known for his Barack trilogy, which plays in the proletarian milieu in Reykjavík. The first volume of Devil's Island / Thar this djöflaeyjan Ris (1983 ) was a great success in Germany. The next band The gold island / Gulleyjan received the 1986 Literary Prize of the Icelandic newspaper DV and was nominated the following year for the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council. Three years later, the third volume of the trilogy was The Promised Land / Fyrirheitna locale ID on the selection list for the Icelandic Literature Prize. The trilogy was brought to the stage and filmed the first volume of the Icelandic director Fridrik Þór Friðriksson as Devil's Iceland. Einar Kárason wrote the screenplay for the film version.

Einar Kárason has published a number of other novels, including 1994 The Icelandic Mafia / Kvikasilfur. He also wrote children's books since 1993.
