Einar Karlsson

Erik David Einar Karlsson ( born September 1, 1908 in Stockholm, † February 17, 1980 ) was a Swedish wrestler and two-time medalist at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and 1936 in Berlin.

Career

Einar Karlsson began as a teenager in " Djurgardens " Stockholm with the rings. He was trained versatile and developed into an excellent wrestler in two styles ( free and Greco- Roman style). Already in 1929 he was appointed to the Swedish national team wrestler and got here by the Finnish national coach of the Swedish wrestler Robert Oksa its finishing touch. Einar weighed usually around 65 kg, and was launched in lightweight, but also had no problems in the featherweight work off (up to 61 kg body weight), which he did often. In 1931, he won the Greco -Roman style in lightweight his first title with a Swedish championship. His international career but had already begun a year earlier at the European Championships in Stockholm. There he defeated the German master Johannes Ohl from large rooms, but won no medals. Also at the European Championship 1931 in Prague, where he was reinstated in the lightweight in Greco -Roman style, it was not yet possible despite a remarkable victory over Hungary Károly Kárpáti.

This first medal win, he was finally able to realize at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Here he wrestled free style at featherweight. After three victories, he lost it against the Finns Hermanni Pihlajamäki on points and won the bronze medal.

1933 Einar stood at the European Championships in Helsinki in Greco-Roman wrestling again in the lightweight and won with 2 wins and 2 losses, favored by a good draw and the violation of Eduard Sperling from Dortmund with the 2nd place again a silver medal.

At the European Championships 1934 in Rome Einar won in the Greco-Roman style at lightweight again and reached a bronze medal at the European Championships 1935 in Brussels in free style in lightweight only the 6th place, although he had defeated the Olympic champion from 1932 Hermanni Pihlajamäki.

1936 Einar won at the Olympic Games in Berlin in the spring weight in the Greco-Roman style back a bronze medal. It was again for him after five wins with Aarne cleaning a Finnish wrestler terminus.

At the European Championships in 1937 in Greco -Roman style in Paris, the last, which denied Einar, the top three finishers defeated featherweight Einar Karlsson, mutually Heinrich Schwarzkopf of Germany and Kustaa Pihlajamäki. Einar succeeded in doing with victory over Kustaa Pihlajamäki perhaps the greatest victory of his career. The defeat against Heinrich Schwarzkopf prevented but his title. Because Kustaa Pihlajamäki and Heinrich Schwarzkopf had a better points ratio of the preliminaries was Einar third parties.
