Eintracht Wetzlar

The SG Eintracht Wetzlar in 1905 is the most successful football club in the central Hessian town of Wetzlar. The first men's team of the club played in the 2011/12 season in the league Hesse.

History

The club was founded as Wetzlar football club on 20 July 1905 and in 1927 renamed the Sports Club Wetzlar 05. After the Second World War he was given its present name.

In the 30s and 40s, the team played in the then second highest German league and in the season 1941/42, a year in Germany's highest division, the Gauliga Hesse -Nassau.

After this brief episode of excellence followed a total of 20 years belonging to the highest Hessian division (Hessen League and Oberliga Hessen ). This was also the second highest initially, later the third highest German league. Three times the club was relegated from the league from Hesse and shortly afterwards on. However, the descent 1971 meant for Eintracht Wetzlar the beginning of an era of 36 years in the lower leagues.

Only in the 2006/07 season the traditional club again reached the summit in the Oberliga Hessen (then fourth highest German league ). After descending into the regional league middle (6th Division) 2007/ 08 could be completed in 2008 /09 on the third place in the table the season. 2010 came with the Association League Championship promotion back to the League of Hesse.

The women's team of Eintracht Wetzlar plays since 2011 in the Regionalliga Süd.

Stadium

The stadium is located in Wetzlar on the Lahn island at the edge of the old town of Wetzlar and has 8,000 seats. Since its development in 2009, the multi-purpose stadium has two covered seating grandstands on the straights as well as some uncovered concrete steps in the curves.

  • Women's Soccer: The women of the Eintracht Wetzlar play since 2011 in the Regionalliga Süd.

The first women's team won the 2011 championship in the league Hesse and rose to the Regionalliga Süd.
