The creek is part of a network of city streams, all of which are fed from the Isar and mostly underground flow through Munich's Old Town and the Lehel. He comes to light at the Eisbachbrücke on the southern edge of the English Garden in the immediate vicinity of the house of art. About two kilometers it flows to the east of the park parallel to the Isar and flows about 500 meters below the John F. Kennedy Bridge from the left in the river back ( Lage48.16187711.609356 ). Shortly before the opening branches off a part of the stream, is an underground current and only 700 meters away, introduced below the weir Oberföhring, in the Isar.

History

The Rein is part of a stream system in the English Garden, which also includes the Schwabing Bach and the Colonel Jägermeister include Bach, both of which are longer than the Rein. The system was designed in its fundamentals in 1789 by the landscape gardener of Sckell based on natural conditions.

Sport and Leisure

A stone step at the exit point of the water-rich and fast-flowing Eisbach generated (since attaching an extension to one of the two banks all year) an approximately half a meter high, colloquially " standing wave " called rapids, which is used by canoeists and river surfers and wave riders and internationally was known. This wave is both loved and feared for surfers, because can cause injury directly behind the shaft several rows of stone blocks under water, especially for inexperienced surfers. In April 2010 it was announced that the city of Munich took over the premises in exchange for a plot of land in the English Garden at the Queen's street from the State of Bavaria, to provide the surfing after 35 years on a legal basis. At the same time launched in the cinemas of the documentary Keep Surfing, portrays the situation on the Rein and the surfers who come in part from all over the world. Bathing in the Rein remains officially banned. This prohibition is not yet enforced. Ever find bathers on warm summer days. Also known as surfer Jack Johnson surfed here. About a kilometer behind the famous Eisbach there are in the same channel nor the so-called " small Eisbach ". This wave is somewhat easier to drive, for inexperienced surfers still exist due to the concrete limits on both sides and the partially strong undercurrent in considerable danger. Beginners should for this reason, and because of the risk of collision with the Eisbachschwimmern therefore this wave shun and avoid the churches located in Thal Floßlände.
