Eivør Pálsdóttir

Eivør Pálsdóttir [ aivœɹ pɔls ˌ DOE ʰ t ː ɪɹ ] ( born July 21, 1983 in Syðrugøta / Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese singer and composer. She sings soprano and accompanies himself on the guitar.

Genre

Eivør is often referred to as " Faroese Björk ", where it refers more to the geographical and cultural proximity to the Faroe Islands to Iceland and the artistic level than on a particular style. Life

Eivør is the first of three daughters of the teacher Sædis Eilifsdóttir and the officers Páll Jacobsen Gøta. The name Eivør is a different spelling of the name Faroese Eyðvør and means " constant guard" or " someone who is always protected you ." The last name Pálsdóttir means " Paul's daughter " after the name of the Father Páll.

After school, she went to Iceland to study music. Later she lived in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Meanwhile, she lives again in the Faroe Islands in their hometown Syðrugøta. In all three countries, it is particularly successful and occurs regularly.

From the place Gøta other famous musicians like Petur Polson and Jón Tyril, Eivørs friends come. To this scene around there is the annual G! Festival in the Faroe Islands. Career

Eivør Pálsdóttir already traveled as a 13 -year-old soloist of a Faroese men's choir to Italy. At 13 she had her first TV appearance. Since the age of 16 she is a professional musician at the age of 17 years and released her first solo album Eivør Pálsdóttir. In 2001 she won with the rock band Clickhaze the Prix Føroyar. Followed in 2002 by the first CD of Clickhaze and another with Kristian Blak Jazz Band Yggdrasil and each Eivør as a singer. In the following year appeared in Iceland her second solo album Krakan. Concerts

Eivør occurs both solo and with band, big band and symphony orchestras. Your own instrument is the guitar.

Eivør toured throughout much of Europe and North America. In 2002, she played for example together with Clickhaze on the large Roskilde Festival 2003 and at the jazz festival in Rochester.

In Iceland, she sang with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Benjamin Pope. Because of their election to the Danish folk vocalist of the year she was seen, among other things at the Roskilde Festival 2006. Other major performances were the renowned North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam together with the big band of Danmarks Radio, and the native G! On 21 February 2007 Eivør drove to Memphis to enter on the big music conference North American Folk Alliance two concerts and to record the song Love Me Tender live for the new disk. She also had a solo gig at the 2007 re Roskilde Festival.

In September 2007 Eivør Pálsdóttir was the first time two concerts in Japan, while their new album Mannabarn after 14 days landed at # 1 on the Icelandic album charts.
