Ejisu-Juaben Municipal District

The Ejisu - Juaben District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of the country in the Ashanti region and there one of 21 regional districts. The Ejisu - Juaben District borders on the districts of Asante Akim North, Asante Akim South, Kwabre, Sekyere East, East Amasie, Botsomtwe / Atwima / Kwamhuma and Kumasi Metropolitan. Geography

The average temperatures range from 20 degrees Celsius in August and 32 degrees Celsius in March. The district is located in the humid forest zone and is predominantly covered with rain forest. Many of the trees are prized hardwoods for export.

Population

The population in the district is made up to 86 percent of the Akan peoples. Three percent of the district population are Ewe, Ga 1 percent and 9.3 percent are peoples from the north of Ghana. 87 percent of the population are Christians, 9.7 percent are Muslims, 1.7 percent follow traditional religions and 1.7 per cent belong to another or no religion.

Two Paramount Chiefs ( high chiefs ) to date have great influence on the local level. A Paramount Chief is the chief of Ejisu, the Ejisumanhene, another is the chief of Juaben, the Juabenmanhene. In Juaben is traditionally the Tuesday of the " taboo " day on which the work rests in Ejisu Sunday is " taboo " tag.

Well-known traditional festivals in the district are Akwasidea, Awukudae and Fofie. In recognition of the great Queen Yaa Asantewaa of the traditional Ashanti was celebrated in August 2006, Yaa Asantewaa Festival for the first time. Economy

The main economic activity in the district is agriculture, followed by the services sector and industry. In the population, the unemployment rate of 62.5 percent is almost twice as high as the unemployment among men with 37.5 percent. From the population pay 78.4 percent of the working population taxes. Agriculture

Education

In 2005, there were Ejisu - Juaben District 122 kindergartens and crèches. 76 of these were public institutions, 46 private. 77 Junior Secondary School ( JSS ) are active in the district, of which 56 are operated publicly and 21 privately. In the JSS approximately 8000 students of 411 trained and 21 non-professional teachers are taught. Another six Senior Secondary Schools ( 5 public and private ) are active in the district.

72.3 percent of the population can read and write. 57.3 percent of the population have visited the JSS or a higher school.

Health

By polluted water people are infected with diseases such as typhoid, cholera, worms or schistosomiasis in Ejisu - Juaben District still. 58.2 percent of the returnees from polluted water diseases are typhoid, schistosomiasis, 31.6 percent, 2.5 percent of Guinea worm, 6.3 percent and 1.3 percent cholera skin diseases.

Infrastructure

The population is supplied to 38.7 percent with tap water. 31 percent take water from springs and wells, 0.3 percent from rivers and 30 percent from boreholes. 83 percent of people use the water from the respective water supply facilities without further purification. Of the remaining 17 percent say that 37.5 percent of the water simply by heating to, filter 18.8 percent water, 37.5 percent use chlorine and 6.3 percent heat the water after they have filtered it.
