Ejura/Sekyedumase District

The Ejura / Sekyedumase District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of the country in the Ashanti region and there one of 21 regional districts. The Ejura / Sekyedumase District borders the districts Offinso, Afigya Sekyere and Sekyere West. The Ejura / Sekyedumase District is located on the northern border of the Ashanti region and therefore cross the Brong- Ahafo Region with their districts Nkoranza and Atebubu - Amantin. Chief Executive of 1252 km ² large district with about 81 119 inhabitants, is Dr. Joshua Ayarkwa. The district capital is Ejura.

Geography

The climatic conditions in the district are determined by the continuous high humidity. Temperatures are highest from January to April, while the average are the coldest weeks of the year from July to August.

In the southwest of the district consist climatic conditions that favor semi- evergreen moist forest in the north and east of the district prevails savannah ago.

Infrastructure

The road network consists of two main lines and 124 kilometers of unpaved roads. The main lines are a 20 kilometer route between Aframso and Kasei. A further 15 km route runs from Aframso after Sekyedumasi. Only the four municipalities Ejura, Sekyedumasi, Kasei and Kyeredeso have a connection to the electrical network. In these four communities 1,300 households have electricity. The three municipalities Hiawoanwu, Bonyon and Dromankuma have already laid the pipe network, the connection to the national electricity supply is still pending.

In the entire district, a post office was opened and two more post offices. Further 205 boxes to be emptied regularly.

Only in the communities Kasei, Hiawoanwu and Nkwanta water supply is secured by mechanical pump systems. Another 56 communities are supplied with water supplies from 148 Bochlöchern, seven municipalities use hand pumps.

In the district of a commercial bank, two rural banks and a development bank were opened. Three weekly markets are held in Ejura, Sekyedumasi and Anyinasu.

Education

In Ejura / Sekyedumase there are 29 kindergartens and 65 elementary schools. In 23 Junior Secondary Schools and two Senior Secondary Schools, young people get a higher education.

In the Junior Secondary School in Kasei is a book collection of over 2,000 volumes one of the most important libraries in the district. The book inventory covers of volumes for kindergarten children up to the demand for the Senior Secondary School.

Health

So far, three hospitals and eight health centers for primary care are operated. Health facilities provide 29 hospital beds and 13 cots available.

Constituencies

In the district Ejura / Sekyedumase forms a constituency of the same name. Here won the parliamentary elections in 2004, Alhaji Mohammed Issifu Pangabu for the party National Democratic Congress ( NDC), the seat in the Ghanaian parliament.
