Ekerö Municipality

Ekerö is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland. The main town of the municipality is Ekerö.

Geography

The community is located west of Stockholm in the middle of Lake Mälaren and consists of four large and several other smaller islands. Ekerö also is also the name of the fourth largest island of Lake Mälaren and the second largest in the municipality, on the chief town Ekerö is. It originated during the postglacial land uplift from the three previously separate islands Ekerö, Kersö and Munsö and is dominated by forest -covered boulders back. The other three major islands are called Färingsö ( Svartsjölandet ), Lovo and Adelsö.
