Ekkehard of Huysburg

Ekkehard of Huysburg (* in the 11th century, † June 28, 1084 ) was a canon of Halberstadt and Benedictine abbot of the monastery Huysburg.

Ekkehard lived in the 11th century. He was determined to 1070 by Bishop Burchard of Halberstadt to the spiritual assistance of the recluse Pia. These lived in the north of the city of Halberstadt upstream Huy.

After a short time gathered here on men and women. Then Ekkehard founded in 1080 the double monastery Huysburg ( men 's and women's Convention ) and was chosen by the Benedictine monks for the first abbot. A year later consecrated him bishop Burchard. After three years Ekkehard renounced the office of abbot.

After his death in 1084 Ekkehard was buried in the abbey church of Huysburg. 2004 saw the former Apostolic Administrator of Magdeburg, Bishop John Brown, there is also his last resting place.

In the year 1121, Ekkehard was beatified.
