Ekkehard Schall

Ekkehard Schall (* May 29, 1930 in Magdeburg, † September 3, 2005 in Berlin) was a German stage and film actor and director. Sound was considered one of the most prolific performer Brecht German language and next Helene Weigel as one of the most influential members of the Berliner Ensemble.

Life

Sound took during his schooldays acting classes and was in 1947 in Magdeburg for the first time on stage. After engagements at the Municipal Theatre of Frankfurt (Oder ) and on the New Stage in Berlin brought him Bertolt Brecht in 1952 at the Berliner Ensemble. This theater was one sound at up to 1995, for 14 years was its deputy director.

Overall sound embodied at the Berliner Ensemble, more than 60 roles. Among the best known which of Arturo Ui in Brecht's The Resistible Rise is one of Arturo Ui, in which he stood on the stage more than 500 times. Great popularity enjoyed his recitation evenings on which he also designed texts by Brecht.

Sound was founded in 1959 awarded the art prize of the GDR and 1962 and 1979, with the National Prize of the GDR, First Class for art and literature. 1973, the Patriotic Order of Merit he was awarded silver. In 1985 he was in New York the prestigious Obie Award for his Bertolt Brecht Evening " An Evening with Ekkehard Schall ," an off-Broadway theater production.

After reunification Ekkehard Schall drew more and more back from the Berliner Ensemble. Own words, he refused to be used by " ignorant younger than, quote ' the proletarian hero time ". Then he started on the estate Brecht in Buckow to write highly acclaimed poems, which were well appreciated by the literary criticism.

He was married to the daughter Barbara Brecht Brecht sound and is the father of actress Johanna Schall.
