Ekkehard Schulz

Ekkehard D. Schulz ( born July 24, 1941 in Bydgoszcz ) is a German manager.

Life

Schulz studied metallurgical engineering at the Technical University of Clausthal, where he also earned his doctorate in 1971.

He then joined as an Executive Assistant at Thyssen Niederrhein AG in the Thyssen Group. In 1985 he was appointed to the Executive Board of Thyssen Stahl AG, where he initiated the merger of the previously independent steel and stainless steel lines and between 1992 and 1996 the number of employees from 58,000 to 35,000 massively reduced. In March 1991, Schulz was promoted to the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG. 1998 Schulz was appointed Chief Executive Officer of ThyssenKrupp AG.

In 1999, he was with Gerhard Cromme one of the initiators of the merger of Thyssen and Krupp -Hoesch to ThyssenKrupp AG. From 1999 to January 2011, he was Chief Executive Officer of ThyssenKrupp AG. His successor there was Heinrich Hiesinger.

Schulz changed in 2011 to the Supervisory Board, from which he had at the end of that year to withdraw again after conditional billion losses were evident by the construction of a new steel mill in Brazil. During construction of the plant, the projected costs were far exceeded, beyond broke through the financial crisis, then even a steel prices. Thyssen -Krupp took depreciation / write-downs of 2.1 billion euros in the steel business in Brazil and the United States and pointed out in the financial year 2010/2011 ( September 30), a loss of 1.8 billion euros.

Schulz (March 2013) in four supervisory boards: Axa, Bayer, MAN and RWE. He has offices at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and Acatech. He also takes care on behalf of the BDI and the Federal Government on the subject of commodities.

Schulz is a member of Friends of the Technical University of Clausthal and in the Academic Sports Liaison Barbara in Academic Gymnastics Federation ( ATB).

In August 2010, Schulz positioned as one of 40 prominent signatories of the Energy Policy Appeal, a lobby initiative of the four major power companies to advance the lifetime extension of German nuclear power plants.

Until 30 June 2006, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG. His successor in this function was Eckhard Cordes.
