El Carmen (Jujuy)

El Carmen is the capital of the departments of El Carmen in the province of Jujuy in northwestern Argentina. It has 14,953 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) and is 45 kilometers from the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy at an altitude of 1,140 meters. In El Carmen, the Ruta Nacional 9 and the Ruta Nacional 66 El Carmen Cross is one of the oldest settlements in the province of Jujuy.

Livestock farming and the cultivation of tobacco and wine are the pillars of the economy.
