El Goléa

El Golea (Arabic الجولية ) Today: Al- Menia'a, an oasis town in the Sahara in Algeria with about 15,000 inhabitants on the Trans-Saharan Road Algiers- Tamanrasset is located in 377 m height. The city with botanical garden and private airport is 270 km south of Ghardaia, and is called the "city of a hundred thousand palm trees ". Besides date palms fruits, vegetables and grains are grown. Artesian wells secure the water supply for people and gardens.

From the north, the trans-Saharan road reaches abruptly breaking off the escarpment. The view is free to the town below with the huge palm groves and the high sand dunes on the eastern edge of the Great Western Erg on the horizon.
