El Nacional (Caracas)

El Nacional is a Venezuelan newspaper with traditional left-liberal orientation. The Journal is published daily, including Sundays. Its daily circulation is from Monday to Saturday at about 100,000 and Sunday at 250,000 copies (as of January 2010).

El Nacional was founded in August 1943 in Caracas and is now run by Manuel and Miguel Henrique Otero Sucre, son of Miguel Otero Silva and grandson of the founder of the newspaper Henrique Otero Vizcarrondo.

The first director was the poet Antonio Arraiz ( 1903-1962 ). In addition, many well-known Venezuelan writer participated. One of the most famous intellectuals of the country, for example, Arturo Pietri USLAR, wrote over a period of more than fifty years an opinion column in the Gazette.
