El Portal is a village in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,325 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

El Portal is adjacent to Miami and Miami Shores.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,325 inhabitants distributed in 939 households. The population density was 2113.6 inh. / Km ². 39.8 % of the population were white, 50.1 % African American, 0.1% Native American and 1.2% Asian Americans. 3.9% were members of other ethnic groups and 4.8% in different ethnic groups. 28.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 24.3 % of all households lived in 32.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 67.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.74 persons and the average family size is 3.26 people.

20.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7 % were 20-39 years old, 33.2% were 40-59 years old and 18.2 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 41 years. 49.5 % of the population were male and 50.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 63,914, while 7.0 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 51.96 % of the population spoke Haitian 23.71 %, 22.38 % spoke Spanish, and 1.95% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

The municipal area is affected in the west of Interstate 95. The nearest airports are Opa- locka Executive Airport the (national, 12 km away) and Miami International Airport ( 14 km).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 276 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were three robberies, four injuries, 21 burglaries, 41 thefts and 22 car thefts.
