El Segundo is a city on the Santa Monica Bay in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. It has 16 654 inhabitants ( 2010) on an area of 28 square kilometers (of which 14.35 land area).
The Spanish name means "the Second " and goes back to the fact that in 1911, the second oil-producing station in California was built.
In El Segundo includes works of several major aircraft manufacturers, including Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and The Aerospace Corporation, which is based here. In El Segundo also has the Los Angeles Air Force Base and the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC ), which is responsible for the procurement of space equipment for the military, their headquarters
Furthermore, there is an oil refinery of the energy company Chevron, a power plant and adjacent thereto a large water treatment plant, the Hyperion sewage treatment plant. The well-known toy manufacturer Mattel has here in El Segundo headquarters, further is the North American headquarters of the Australian company Globe Shoes. The seat of the company founded here IT consulting and services company Computer Sciences Corporation, however, was postponed in early 2008 by El Segundo to Falls Church in Virginia. In addition, the satellite television provider DirecTV is headquartered at Imperial Hwy.
In the north of the city is Los Angeles International Airport International Airport.
