Elaine Fuchs

Viola Elaine Fuchs ( born May 5, 1950 in Hinsdale, Illinois) is an American biologist and professor at the Rockefeller University in New York City.

Life

Fox acquired in 1972 from the University of Illinois a BA in chemistry in 1977 at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, a Ph.D. in biochemistry. As a postdoctoral fellow, she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a researcher, she worked for 22 years at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, in 1980 as an assistant professor and from 1985 as an Associate Professor, and since 1989 as a full professor. Since 1988 Fuchs to additional research for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute ( HHMI ). 2002 Fuchs was appointed professor at the Rockefeller University in New York City.

Work

Based on cell biological and molecular genetic studies in mice, especially using methods of reverse genetics, Fox was able to make special contributions to the study of the function of keratin as an element of the cytoskeleton and the malfunction of mutant keratin and thereby induced skin diseases. Other key findings of their research concerning adult stem cells of the skin and skin cancer.
