Elara (monarch)

Elalan (235 BC - 161 BC), also known as Elara and Élaezha Chola ( எல்லாளன், மனு நீதி சோழன் in Tamil ), was a Chola king from the Chola kingdom in what is today southern India, Sri Lanka from 205 BC to 161 BC, ruled from the ancient capital of Anuradhapura. Often Elalan was named as " king of righteousness ". Elalan is an unusual figure in the history of Sri Lanka and one with particular resonance given the ongoing ethnic strife in the country. According to the chronicle of Mahavamsa Dutugemunu had defeated in a duel Elalan on elephants and erected a monument to him in front of Anuradhapura respect and recognition.
