Elastica

Elastica was an alternative rock band from Great Britain. As most success, the band reached # 1 on the UK album charts with their first album Elastica.

History

Elastica was founded in October 1992 by the former Suede members Justine Frischmann and Justin Welch man. Added met bassist Annie Holland and guitarist Donna Matthews, who previously played with the band Darling Buds. Their first single was actively promoted by the BBC DJs and they reached a label deal with Deceptive Records. The band reached the height of their fame in 1995 with the debut album, the debut feature at that time the fastest -selling ever promoted in Britain and rose to number one on the charts. Three of the four out-coupled Singles achieved despite rather unconventional sound the local Top 20 and made the band known internationally, especially among listeners of alternative rock.

Late as 1995, the band continued to play at Glastonbury Festival and reached with the debut and two singles in the United States Gold status. In 1996 the band records at a second album. There were several line-up changes and delays in the planned publication. 1999 finally appeared only an EP with six songs that originated in the aborted album recordings. In the same year came the first time to live performances. 2000 their second album The Menace, but could no longer continue the great success of the first album, reaching only number 24 in the UK charts. In September 2001, Elastica announced its dissolution.

Style

Because of the Britpop wave in the mid 1990s and the origin of some of the members of Elastica is sometimes classified in this segment. Because of numerous other stylistic influences and the unconventional sound of the band, as you have experienced with typical Britpop formations, Elastica but is often categorized as post-punk or commonly known as alternative rock.
