Elatinaceae

Elatine tripetala

The Tännelgewächse ( Elatinaceae ) are a family in the order of Malpighienartigen ( Malpighiales ) within the angiosperms ( Magnoliopsida ). The 35 to 50 species are distributed in temperate to tropical areas almost worldwide.

Description

The types of Tännelgewächse are one to several years or perennial herbaceous plants or subshrubs in wetlands. The opposite, sometimes farmers leagues, simple leaves usually have a serrated edge ( sometimes ganzrandig ) and can be located above or below water. The stipules are (usually) small.

The flowers are borne singly or in zymösen inflorescences. The small flowers are hermaphroditic and radial symmetry (two - up ) five to sechszählig. The sepals and petals are free. The bloom there are one or two circles, each with two to five ( or six ) free stamens. Two to five ( or six ) carpels are fused to a syncarp, superior ovaries, with two to five ( or six ) of free pencils. There are two to fünffächerige formed capsule fruits.

Dissemination

The types have their districts in the world mostly in the temperate to tropical latitudes. There is just no species in Arctic latitudes.

Herm. find and Dreimänniger waterwort or stem - waterwort ( Elatine triandra Schkuhr ).

System

The Elatinaceae family was erected in 1829 by Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier in analysis of Familles de Plantes, pp. 44, 49. Type genus is Elatine L.. Synonyms for Elatinaceae Dumort. nom. cons. are: Alsinastraceae Rupr. nom. illeg. and Cryptaceae Raf ..

The Elatinaceae family today belongs to the order Malpighiales. In older systems, it was incorporated into the former order Theales.

In the family Elatinaceae there are only two genera with 35-50 species:

  • Bergia L.: The five petals are usually short-stalked. It contains about 25 species.
  • Waterwort ( Elatine L. ): The flowers are sessile threefold. It contains approximately (10 to ) 25 species.
