The Tender Class 404, also called same class are supply ships of the German Navy. They are subject Flotilla 1

The German Navy has six Tender Class 404, which are named after major German rivers. Administratively, the tenders are classified as boats and are in the military hierarchy at the level of a company.

Task

The Tender serve as support ships of the boat squadron of the German Navy. They supply fighting units ( speed boats, minesweepers and submarines) in the lake with fuel, water, food, spare parts and ammunition. They also serve the disposal, for which they are equipped with a waste disposal facility and a wastewater treatment plant.

For repairs of boats on the lake and in the operational area are about 30 specialists of the System Support Group (SUG ) are available. In addition, the tender can record a wing staff and serve as a guide platforms for their squadron. The infirmary on board is to provide minor wounds in the situation. Additionally, it is possible to supply even heavier wounds by doctors embarked in the infirmary.

The flight deck at the stern of the tender allowed takeoffs and landings of helicopters. For the recording and maintenance of helicopters but the tender are not suitable because they do not have a hangar and therefore can not carry onboard maintenance group.

Units, membership in associations and locations

The six tenders are spread over several squadrons. While the Elbe ( A 511 ) is used for 7 speed boat squadron, the Moselle (A 512) is under the 5th Minesweeping Squadron. The Tender Rhine ( A 513 ) and Werra (A 514) belong to the third minesweeping squadron. On 1 Submarine Squadron is part of the Tender Main ( A 515 ) and the first Corvette Squadron is the Tender Donau (A 516 ) is assigned.
