Elbert County (Georgia)

The Elbert County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Elberton.

Geography

The County is located in Northeast Georgia, on the east by South Carolina and is in the north about 100 miles from Tennessee away. It has an area of 970 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Wilkes County, Oglethorpe County, Madison County and Hart County.

History

Elbert County was formed as the 13th county in Georgia from portions of Wilkes County on December 10, 1790. It was named for Samuel Elbert, a hero of the Revolutionary War and early governor of Georgia.
