Elbit Systems

Elbit Systems Ltd.. is an Israeli aerospace - and electronics company headquartered in Haifa.

History

The company was founded in 1966 by Elron Electronic Industries. In the early days, the company focused on the development and production of navigation equipment for most Israeli aircraft, developed an avionics package for the IAI Lavi fighter aircraft and a fire control system for the Merkava tank. 1996 Elbit was divided into three independent companies: Elbit Medical Imaging, Elbit Systems and Elbit.

In 2000, Elbit Systems merged with El- Op, a company of the current chairman Michael Feder man, and thus became the largest non-governmental company for defense electronics in Israel. The merger with El- Op Michael Feder man is the largest shareholder of the company. 2004 Elron sold its shares in Elbit for 200 million U.S. dollars.

After the merger with El- Op bought Michael Feder man and CEO Joseph Ackerman numerous companies to:

  • Israel Military Industries ( shares of the Aircraft Systems Division )
