Elbe Valley on the southern slope of the Westerwald on the Lahn valley.

Structure

The community consists of four districts Dorchheim ( seat of the municipal administration), Elbgrund, Hangenmeilingen and Heuchelheim.

History

The hills on both sides of Elbbachs were inhabited since the Neolithic period; demonstrated by numerous finds of stone tools das. The Ringwallanlage " Heath House" at Hangenmeilingen is on the Hallstatt period ( 750-450 BC ) dates.

Heuchelheim was 772 mentioned in a deed of gift of the monastery Lorsch first time, Waldmann Stockhausen, one of the predecessor municipalities of Elbgrund, on October 21, 1138 as part of a donation to the monastery of St. Goar, Dorchheim 1215 in a document of the monastery Khajuraho, Mühlbach, the second predecessor municipality of Elbgrund, 1230 in a donation of the Counts of Nassau to the Teutonic Order and Hangenmeilingen on 21 January 1333.

The still preserved Trakai Castle Waldmannshausen in Elbgrund was in the Middle Ages seat of the Walpoden, who had jurisdiction over the surrounding countryside. The plant has a late Gothic house with two round towers and business buildings that are still used today. To the west are the ruins of a circular scale, older castle. 1835 the castle came into the possession of significant Frankfurt banking family Bethmann. After the Second World War it was headquarters of the U.S. Army. Today it is used as a school camp.

One of the oldest buildings in the village is the Marienstätter court in Dorchheim, which is used as Elbtaler City Hall since 1993. The exact year of construction is unknown. He is one of three surviving farms, which belonged to the monastery Marienstatt.

Until the mid-20th century Mühlbach clay and basalt was mined in the district.

Incorporations

On 1 February 1971, the places Dorchheim, Hangenmeilingen and Heuchelheim joined a community named " Elbe " together. On 1 July 1974, the then still independent community Elbgrund was added, which was formed in 1936 from the formerly independent communities Mühlbach and Waldmannshausen.

Economy and infrastructure

Elbe Valley is a gated community, in addition to the usual local trade and crafts, there is no industry.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main road 54 victories - Limburg and is thus well connected to the road network.

Education

In the parish exists with the Elbe Valley School in Dorchheim a common elementary school. As secondary schools usually the center school of St. Blaise in Frickhofen and the Fürst Johann Ludwig school are visited in Hadamar.
