Elderslie

Elderslie ( Ach -na- Fearna Gaelic ) is a town in the Scottish unitary authority Renfrewshire. It is located between Paisley and Johnstone, ie about 14 km west of the city center of Glasgow. In 2001, Elderslie recorded 5180 inhabitants.

The old settlement Elderslie developed in the 19th century in the course of industrialization. As important industries, the Glenpatrick paper mill and distillery Gleniffer (also Glenpatrick distillery, 1833-1894 ) settled. There were also textile industry, particularly rugs were produced.

The Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace was born about 1270 in Elderslie and grew up there.
