The listed herein elections and referendums were held in 2008 or were scheduled for the specified date.

By no means all of the choices listed here in 2008 according to internationally recognized democratic standards were performed. Also included are sham elections in dictatorships without alternative candidates or elections, whose results have come through massive election fraud or without fair and equal access of competing candidates or parties to the mass media about. A rough idea of the validity of the elections listed conveys the accompanying map showing the countries in blue, which are classified by Freedom House as " electoral democracies ". The estimates of Freedom House, however, are controversial and by no means in all cases.

Due to the large number of choices that are performed worldwide each year, the list can not claim to be complete. The aim is definitely the list of all elections of at least national importance. The following elections were held in 2008:

On 8 February 2008, parliamentary elections were held in Djibouti 2008.
On December 7, 2008, presidential elections were held in Ghana 2008.
On February 19, the parliamentary elections of Western Sahara were held in 2008 ( not recognized State).

On 19 September 2008, parliamentary elections were held in Mauritius 2008.
