Electric light

As an electric light is referred to the light generated by a light source converting electricity into light. Examples include incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp and light emitting diode ( LED).

The term " electric light " is used as a boundary to the other methods of producing light (candle, torch, oil lamp or gaslight ).

The electric light changed the lifestyle of the people to be sustainable because the dependency was largely offset by daylight through the easy availability of this light source.

History

The first form of the electric light was the carbon arc lamp.

The first electric light sources at the beginning of the 19th century had an efficiency of less than one percent. During this time they have not yet been frequently used. The first industrially produced electric light sources (filament lamps ) from about 1880 had an efficiency of two to three percent. Over time, the efficiency has been slightly improved. Electric light sources with a high efficiency (over 50 percent) appeared only in the last two decades of the 20th century to the mass market. Nowadays it is possible to achieve efficiencies of over 90 percent.
