Elektra Records

Elektra Records is a record label in the United States. It was founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rick Holt in Los Angeles. The initial capital was 600 U.S. dollars. Jac Holzman produced mainly artists from the former folk scene on the U.S. West Coast, some with considerable success. He also helped groups like the Doors to national and international prominence.

After twenty years as an independent company, the label in 1970 for 10 million U.S. dollars was sold to the Kinney National Company. This conglomerate was only a short time previously entered with the purchase of film and music company Warner Bros / Seven Arts in the media business. Warner Bros. brought his hand earlier assumed known record label in the Group, such as Atlantic Records or Reprise label founded by Frank Sinatra. 1971 took over the label Elektra Asylum Records, whose founder David Geffen led from 1973 Elektra -Asylum. Jac Holzman remained as one of the vice presidents joined the group and settled in Hawaii.

1972 Kinney Group came from nearly all of its non- media activities and changed its name to Warner Communications. In subsequent years, the music business was established and expanded under the old and new labels in Europe. Also in Germany WEA became one of the leading record companies.

1982 was established as a jazz label Elektra / Musician.

Mid-80s Warner Communications merged with Time Inc. and the Group was then called Time Warner. 2000 was followed by another merger with the Internet company AOL. As a result, the Group ran into serious difficulties and sold significant parts of its business areas, including the music business, including the label Elektra.

2004 included the new owner of the Warner Music Group, the record label Elektra.

In 2009 the record label Atlantic Records, the label Elektra reissued.
