Elevon

The term elevon is a portmanteau of the English words elevator ( German elevator) and aileron ( aileron German ). Elevons denote a combination of height and ailerons in aircraft. Rather than each separate height and aileron provide on partially different wings, elevons are attached to the main wing and control both the longitudinal and the transverse inclination of the plane.

Due to their design elevons are used primarily for aircraft with delta wings and flying wing, this is particularly true of combat aircraft to (eg: Euro Fighter ), but also the civilian supersonic aircraft Concorde and the American Space Shuttle are equipped with elevons.
